Visionary
is currently exploring several avenues of generating interest
not just in their work, but in comic books in general.
One such project is this partnership with Microfilmmaker
Magazine. Both Visionary and Microfilmmaker share the
desire to improve their respective artistic fields and
believe that the best way to do that is through relationships
and collaboration. What better way to do so than to join
forces?
Because
of their intensely Independent spirit, Visionary is extremely
anxious to work with microfilmmakers and having our readers
transform their books into films. In addition to allowing
our readers full access to making films of their comics
and giving sneak peaks at upcoming comics that are available
for film adaptation, Visionary is even willing to give
our filmmakers the power of the bidding process on their
own treatments.
What
this means is that, if you have a treatment you'd love
to make into a fully realized script, you can actually
submit it to the folks at Visionary and they will create
a bidding process in which their talented writers and
artists will develop a springboard, synopsis and even
a few pages of sample script and illustrated pages and
let you, the filmmaker, decide which writer's style and
ideas you like best. This means that, rather than having
to settle for cobbling together a script yourself, you
can select the writer whose style most mirrors your ideas
and work with them to come up with the best possible script.
They'll even work with you to get the script storyboarded
and create a Visionary Comics-released comic book adaptation
of your film for general distribution.
Never
before have Independent filmmakers and comic creators
had a greater chance to work together in a mutually beneficial
collaboration.
Currently,
Visionary is producing the original series, Savage
World, and reprinting Fricke and Beaderstadt's Trollords,
both of which will be coming out later this year. (You
can read more about them in our Comics
for Indie Films Section.)
While it goes without saying that microfilmmakers are
innovative and have accomplished amazing visual feats
on limited budgets, several of Visionary's comic books
(especially Savage World and Trollords)
are quite challenging due to the need for special effects,
and are recommended for filmmakers more experienced in
making full-length features and in utilizing special effects.
(Note that knowledge is the key here, not necessarily
budget. If there's one thing money can't buy, it's lessons
learned from the School of Experience!) More low-budget
friendly comics are slated for release later this year.
We will update you about this when it occurs and, when
there are more comics available, will be doing an in-depth
interview with Visionary Comics founder, C. Edward Sellner.
In
the meantime, go to our Comics
for Indie Films section to check out the new comic
additions of Trollords and Savage World.
If you are willing to take on the challenge of these two
experienced comics, then just email the respective contacts
associated with these comics.
If
you would like to work with the creative team at Visionary
on an original work, then write out your treatment and
submit it to Visionary's artists at visionarycomics@aol.com;
they'll then work on developing some initial scripts and
artwork, from which you'll select what best suits your
overall vision for your project. You'll partner up with
the creative team you've chosen to work with, and together
director, writer(s), and artist(s) will work with one
another step-by-step to bring it into being.
