We
at Microfilmmaker have approached a number of
talented comic creators to get them to offer their
talents to micro-budget filmmakers. By striking
a deal with comic creators, you, as microfilmmakers,
can now cast and shoot scripts that have already
been written, shot sheeted, and storyboarded,
which saves you lots of time and allows you to
shoot films that are more visually pleasing. The
comic creators get the advantage of having filmmakers
who will actually treat their comics as the storyboarded
scripts they are and shoot off of them without
screwing them up.
Many
of these comics deal with topics and locations
that can be dealt with virtually no money. Some
of the comics are a bit more complicated to pull
off on no budget, yet a little creativity can
go a long way! (Let's not forget what Alex
Ferrari and the folks at Broken taught us
about overcoming 'big-budget' obstacles for effects!)
And some of these comics, like Savage World,
are the sort of challenge that will attract only
the most advanced and technically proficient microfilmmakers.
Whatever segment you fall into, you'll probably
find something to pique your filmmaking interest.
Provided
you contact them ahead of time, each of these
comic creators is willing to allow you to make
a movie or short based on their comics on a pure
deferrment basis. Because they've done so much
of the pre-production work for you, it's only
fair that they make a greater percentage of a
potential profit than someone who simply contributes
a song, for example.
As
such, the agreed upon contract with these comic
creators states that if your film is bought for
a profit, they would earn 10% of the profit of
the initial purchase, up to $100,000. If there
are royalties after the initial purchase, they
would be entitled to 3% of those. If you do not
sell the film for a profit, you can sell your
film on your site without owing them a penny (until
you have sold enough to make a profit, of course).
All
in all, a great deal that helps the Indie Comic
industry and the Indie Film industry level the
playing field. Why should old Hollywood be the
only group that can have comic-to-film franchises?
And, unlike them, we'll use Robert Rodriguez motto
for adapting comics to film: 'If it ain't broke,
why on earth screw it up?' (The
preceding was a highly paraphrased quote that
is based on Robert Rodriguez personality and business
ethic, not on an individual quote or official
motto!)

though, this brief visit beyond the

When a day of toil and only fleeting
pleasure finally ends, maybe you'll
better understand why the silent dream
was only a brief quiet.
