Review: WIX.com, Pg. 4

The newest edition to the plans is an e-commerce option (which is recommended for those who would like to sell their own projects online) for $24.90/month. This gives you an easy to use shopping cart function.

Overall I feel the cost is justified, but, if you’re a web designer and have your own web space, it may not be, especially since you are charged per site. (For designers who choose to use Wix, it would be nice to see them offer a discount for multiple sites.) But if you need one or two sites, the ease of this product makes it worth the buck. Each site is up/down gradable at anytime. So you could start off with the free plan and move up to the premium when the time is right for your project.

There is also an option to have a Wix “professional” design a custom site for you. To each their own, but personally I would find this to be waste of money. I doubt they make much of their income from this. The fact is the platform is so easy to use, I cannot imagine why you would want to pay someone to make this for you. If you do need someone to create something you cannot figure out in Wix, then maybe it’s time to call a local designer.

Logging onto update your site from practically anywhere is a selling point.

Final Comments
Let’s face it, if you are making a major motion picture for a large studio, Wix is probably not going to cut it. Those guys have full time marketing firms to push the envelope. But Wix.com is a nice alternative to spending major $$$ on a flashy website. It’s not, nor does it intend to be, a replacement for programs like
Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver. But if you have an idea of what you want for your project’s promotions and a tad bit of skill with some ready to go elements, Wix can be an easy, fast and impressive tool.
