Review: Boris XML Transfer, Pg. 2

Depth of Options
While it does give you a decent number of adjustments you can make in AE, the plug in doesn't come with a ton of options overall. But that can't be considered a negative on a product like this. What it does offer is seamless workflow with many supported features. Nearly every Final Cut, Boris, 3rd party, and Motion Tab effects and transitions are supported, and will remain adjustable within After Effects.

...All the footage from your sequence enters into AE, fully editable!

Performance
Does it work? Yes. Simply, easily, and without bugs. It doesn't transfer back to Final Cut like Dynamic Link, but it's definitely a huge step forward for Final Cut Studio users.

Value
Boris has created a product that just plain works seamlessly. The downside with simple-appearing programs like this is that you expect a bit lower price tag that $300. As such, for folks who don’t need to do much cross-over work from FCP to AE, it’s probably a bit too high a price. However, if you treat a lot of your footage within After Effects, you will find this tool to be very useful and well worth the price. (Folks who are used to the price of Automatic Duck and the more limited import it provides will definitely want to check out the more economical Boris XML Transfer for FCP & AE.)

Final Comments
Very rarely do I require a move of my entire editable sequence into After Effects, but it's quite possible that I just never had it open to me as a possibility! I can definitely see myself sending greenscreen scenes completely edited into AE and handling them in that way from now on! It will make the matching and detailing much simpler.
