Award of SuperiorityLast fall, e-on software released the latest version of their powerful natural environment software, Vue 7 Infinite. With this program, an artist can create beautiful vistas of various environments that are populated with a wide spectrum of flora that comes packed on the disc or can be acquired off of their site. Vue 7 Infinite’s strength lies in its ability to create these huge procedural expansions of land without crashing any mid-range to high-end commercial system. (This information and much more can be found in my previous review of version 7 found here.)

Now. a new upgrade has arrived in Vue Infinite 7.5, offering small but significant upgrades to various areas within this popular program. Most enhancements that have been made are to components that are necessary to build any natural scene, but a few are additions that make some unique challenges, like making planets, a lot easier. With that said, let’s dive in to these features and their possibilities for use.

With projected shadows turned on in the Atmosphere Editor, cross-shadowing can be done among the clouds.

New Features
The clouds, like every other component within Vue, are rendered so beautifully and add significant impact to your image or animation. Vue 7.5 has added a few upgrades to allow you to better control the final results. Color and alpha masks can be generated in the multi-pass renderer so that you can separate the background clouds and make adjustments in your favorite image-editing program, such as Photoshop.

A new feature available in the Sky, Fog, and Haze tab of the Atmosphere Editor is the option to allow clouds to project shadows from any cloud or object on to another cloud. So whether you are layering clouds on top of each other or you have a plane or superhero flying through the sky, their shadows will be cast down on any clouds underneath.

Multi-pass renders are now available for clouds for individual tweaking.

Real-world spherical cloudscapes are now possible by plugging in cloud density maps. Using online resources like the Real Time Cloud Map site , you can download free density maps to apply to the atmosphere of any planetary terrains in Vue Infinite 7.5. This is a quick and easy way of adding realism to any small galaxy you create.
