Finally, the CD portion, "Gaining Industry Clients Using One Unique Marketing Strategy":
"Any type of exposure is good exposure." "Surround yourself with people that are about business, not BS." Two wonderfully important things to remember when undertaking any venture and my two favorite quotes from the CD portion of this training package.
Again Jag's personality makes the CD easy to listen to and things are put in a clear and concise way so that they are easy to grasp. Jag discusses one primary marketing strategy and then touches briefly on another that can go hand in hand with the other or serve its own function. Paying to get air time on your local cable channel is certainly a great way to have people see your work and has a tremendous amount of new business potential.
For me this portion left me wanting a bit more...again. I understood all that Jag was saying and was ready to give it a shot myself, but being a "basics" type of program I still didn't feel like I had the know how to orchestrate and carry out the production of my own TV show. That could be an entirely different training program from Johuri Filmworks and one that I'd like to see. One must also have had enough clients (and charged them properly-as Jag reminds us to do) in order to afford a venture like this. Now, if you're from a smaller area, this may mean going to the next town to gain clients. But, like the quote I used at the beginning of this section, "Any type of exposure is good exposure." Get your work and your name out there any way you can.
I felt like the idea that seemed most feasible for the average person starting off was taking your videos and putting them together on a DVD and selling them. This helps you make some more money and gets your work out there and will (if you've followed Jag's other tips) create positive word of mouth and, as a result, more business.
Jag uses cameras that are common to low-budget filmmakers in this training, like the Indie-standard DVX100 and the HD HVX200.
Comprehension
Jag and team have presented this training program in such a way that anyone can understand it.
Depth of Information
You, the viewer/listener/reader, are presented with a plethora of valuable information...for the beginner. The video, while easy to understand and loaded with good information, never delves too far below the surface.
Interest Level
Jag's personality and enthusiasm make it difficult not to enjoy this product. I had an easy time getting through it. My only mistake was listening to the CD portion at my computer instead of in my car. Too many distractions at the old computer.
Reusability
Unfortunately, once you've applied the principals of this training program you're ready for something more in depth and complex. While it's great for one starting off, it would be old news to anyone with some experience.
Value vs. Cost
For the beginner, the helpful tips for starting a business alone are worth the $49.
Overall Comment
Jag and his team at Johuri Filmworks have put together a great and practical training system for the beginner. Not only is this system useful to one starting off, full of great tidbits of advice that we can all learn from, but it is a bargain at the reasonable price for which it is offered. While there are aspects that could be fine tuned and tightened up in the presentation side of things, this is a very useful tool for someone wanting to get started in the business of making music videos.
