Fremont, CA, USA – Thursday, August 1, 2024 – Blackmagic Design today announced that Tokyo based Kozakaya Motion Pictures has been producing YouTube content for global fashion media using Blackmagic Design products, including Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro digital film cameras, DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, color grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software, and Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 3G monitor/recorder.
Kozakaya Motion Pictures handles projects for global fashion media and tech media, conducting shoots several times a month. It also equipped its in house studio with additional Blackmagic Design gear, such as ATEM live production switchers and DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel.
For the productions, the company uses a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, with Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 3G for monitoring. Keita Kawahara, the company’s representative and a director on the shoots, said: “For the particular fashion media we shoot in 12:1 Blackmagic RAW. The false color function in the Pocket Cinema Cameras is very useful, so I often use it when I shoot to check contrast.”
Kawahara added: “I decided to introduce our first Pocket Cinema Camera 6K when it was released because it supported EF mount lenses and RAW shooting. Later, I introduced ATEM Mini Pro, ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, and ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel for streaming and added three more Pocket Cinema Camera 6Ks as streaming cameras. Afterward, when the Pocket 6K Pro model was released at an affordable price, we added one more unit. For the fashion media’s project we use two cameras, the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.”
Kawahara stated: “We started using DaVinci Resolve Studio after buying the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. In fashion oriented projects, color correction is often required. For projects that need extra color adjustments, we often edit with DaVinci Resolve to keep the workflow efficient. DaVinci is great because it handles Blackmagic RAW very smoothly, and also it’s easy to adjust RAW files from other camera manufacturers.”
He concluded: “I often use features like patch replacer, the tracker, noise reduction, and stabilizer in DaVinci Resolve Studio. I use these functions to retouch the skin tones of models and actresses. When doing color correction, we use the DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel. Especially for cosmetics, like lipsticks, clients often have strict color specifications. Therefore, using the panel, we adjust the subtle color differences that may have occurred, due to changes in lighting, to match the color in the product photos provided by the client.”
