Fremont, CA, USA – Tuesday, August 20, 2024 – Blackmagic Design announced today that Kansai TV is using DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software and Blackmagic Cloud in its post production workflow.
Kansai TV broadcasts television programs in the Kinki region in Japan, producing a variety of programs including news, informational programming, variety shows, TV dramas, and sports programming. The company has incorporated DaVinci Resolve Studio and Blackmagic Cloud services into the workflow for one of its informational programs.
“We have been able to produce projects using other solutions, but it was quite expensive. While looking for a more affordable option, we found out that Blackmagic Cloud is available for less than 800 yen (US$5) per month, so we signed up,” said Editor Yoshiyuki Shimizu of Kansai TV.
“Not only is Blackmagic Cloud affordable, but the idea of including the audio suite process within the workflow is also unique. The ability to work on sound tasks while editing is a new concept compared to our previous workflow, and I think it’s very innovative,” he said.
Editor Shinya Okuno added, “Compared to the project sharing solution we used before, Blackmagic Cloud allows me to share and work on the project without any stress in usability. Also, with Blackmagic Cloud, there are no restrictions such as needing to be in the same office or on the same network to share projects. The ability to collaborate regardless of location, whether in a different building or working from home, is a significant advantage.”
Kansai TV has been using DaVinci Resolve Studio for grading 4K and 8K projects and editing web contents. Regarding the use of DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing informational programming, Shimizu said, “Since both editing and color correction can be done within a single software, it’s very convenient to have other staff key out while editing. It eliminates the need to check the finished work in another software and then export and receive it, making the process very efficient. Using iPads for preview and being able to check with DaVinci Resolve for iPad was also convenient.”
Okuno added, “Not having to prepare large equipment for preview settings is very helpful. Also, the other system often requires digitizing or creating intermediate files before editing. DaVinci handles the material natively, allowing for trouble free editing without import time.”
“DaVinci Resolve’s noise reduction feature is extremely effective, so we often use it for removing noise in shadow areas even when editing with other systems. Depending on the camera used for location shooting, noise in shadows can be quite noticeable, but DaVinci Resolve makes it easy to remove,” Shimizu said.
“DaVinci Resolve constantly adds the features we want with each version upgrade. As a broadcaster, the enhanced interlacing features have been very beneficial. Also, I feel that the export speed has been getting faster with each version upgrade,” Shimizu concluded.
