NEW AWARDS PROGRAM RECOGNIZES AND REWARDS

LOW-BUDGET INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS

Detroit, Michigan – The Independent film industry has come a long way. With streaming services like Netflix and many others, the possibility for independent filmmakers to have their movies viewed across the world are within reach.

Low-budget independent filmmakers now have an awards program designed specifically for them!  Yes, there are plenty of film festivals, but there hasn’t been a Hollywood-style awards program recognizing and rewarding low-budget independent filmmakers until now!

The I See You Awards™ were created by Terri J. Lee, a professional film critic and a member of the prestigious Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), the largest film critics group in the United States and Canada.  After years of reviewing movies for all of the major Hollywood studios, Lee noticed that there was a void for small independent filmmakers.  She felt that producers of low-budget independently-produced movies deserved recognition for their films as well.

In addition to being a film critic, I am an independent filmmaker myself, so I know firsthand the challenges that independent filmmakers face as they work to bring their projects to the big screen,” said Lee.  “I believe indie filmmakers need and deserve to see their hard work, sacrifices and dedication recognized, so the idea for the I See You Awards™ was born.”

“There are also thousands and thousands of film festivals, and in order to win an award from a film festival, filmmakers must enter their films in each festival they are interested in,” Lee added.  “This can and does get very expensive when you consider the number of film festivals that exist not just domestically, but also internationally.  It is also very time-consuming.”

To open the awards up to as many deserving filmmakers as possible, awards in the feature film category will be categorized based on the film’s budget.  For example, feature films with budgets in the following ranges are eligible to enter:

$100,000 or less

$101,000 – $350,000

$351,000 – $700,000

Short films will not be categorized by budget, however, a short film should not exceed 35 minutes and the budget should not exceed $50,000.

Nominations for the first annual I See You Awards™ are still being accepted on the awards website: www.iseeyouawards.com.   All entries will go through the official awards sponsor: Film Freeway, and the deadline to enter is March 31st.

The overwhelming response has been a hit, with entries from around the world.

The first annual I See You Awards™ will be handed out on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Boll Theater in Downtown Detroit; at which time the guests will have the opportunity to walk the official Blue Carpet!

Finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the awards ceremony*, and winners will receive cash prizes, a specially-designed trophy, media publicity and worldwide recognition on all of our official social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Additional prizes are still to be announced.

The sponsors of the I See You Awards include: The Michigan Film Office, WWJ-950 Newsradio, and The Lee Group.
