Panasonic has pre-calibrated the lenses for a single cam 3D rig!
The camera looks like an HVX200 with a big nose.
Panasonic showed off their new 3D camera the AG-3DA1. It looks like an HVX200 with a huge snout, housing two integrated and calibrated lenses. Shooting at 1920X1080P, the camera is a serious solution for 3D production, and is much easier to use than a two camera setup. The camera will record up to 180 minutes on dual 32gig P2 cards and offers HD-SDI out. Already set at the proper distances the lenses work together to create a 3D image, while you adjust the focus and convergence. The camera will retail for over $21,000, which will put it out of the range of the average filmmaker, but will still make it rentable. The 3D camera will start shipping this fall, on special order.
Panasonic's 3D monitor for onset work ($10,000).
They also have a $10,000 monitor which will help you adjust the convergence on set. Movie sets are going to start looking really nerdy, with everyone wearing ugly 3D glasses. Oakley? Possible product?
