An Overview of NAB 2009, Pg. 6

LEDZ is taking over HMI lighting with high power and perfect color temp.

An amazing new lighting solution that I have become an instant fan of is from a company called LEDZ. They make LED based lights that are perfect 5500k Daylight color temperature, dimmable, and are as powerful as HMIs. And because they’re LED, they’re ultra-cool operating, so you don't burn your hands or melt your actors. Their largest available light, the Brute 16, is equivalent to a 200w HMI, which is amazing. You can get it with a circular beam spread or a rectangular spread, which seems to come in pretty handy. The Brute 16 is a few thousand dollars (between 3 and 5 depending on where you are in the world) but lasts a lifetime....without ever changing a bulb. For a 200w HMI to equal the life of a Brute 16, you will spend $55000 in globes. Food for thought. LEDZ is soon to release the Brute 30, equivalent to a 575w HMI, and it will be the first in the world. If you want to see an example of what these lights look like, here is a link to a commercial for the lights, lit entirely by the lights.

As you can see, NAB held several surprises for those of us with smaller pocketbooks. While that may be so, I am still looking for someone to buy one of my kidneys so I can afford everything on my list this year. Any takers?
