A fun piece, perfectly at home as a web piece and also showing how much more enjoyable web pieces can be when they're made with same effort and application as any other short film. Maintaining the Crestfallen team's love of genre in a very different way to "Plaster", it's a worthy experiment in a still undefined medium.
Coffee rating: 8/10 Notes:The web short taken seriously, sort of.
THE MUSIC VIDEO: Sound Sanctuary's "Broken Signs"
A new year, so something new. We also screen music videos on Coffee Shorts aiming to showcase both film and music talent at the same time, so in addition to the regular two shorts and a trailer (still to be found below), we'll give you some music every month too.
Kicking us off is this pristinely crafted After Effects smorgasbord created by Khaki Production for the British acoustic/electronica band Sound Sanctuary. Full of ideas, beautifully layered and mixed and filmed and edited and loaded with effects the clean and crisp finish matches the studio perfect music and harmonies whilst still bringing an indie aesthetic through the situations and locations, enjoy!
THE MOVIE TRAILER! Modern Love
A calm if quietly imposing trailer for the beautifully shot Australian independent feature film thriller Modern Love from director Alex Frayne. Picking up all kinds of critical acclaim for it's mature and quality filmmaking this dark gothic psychological thriller is quickly becoming a cult hit and looks like nothing you've ever seen come out of Australia before; available now on DVD from Ezydvd it's a pretty worthwhile thing to spend your Christmas money on.
Coffee Shorts have a unique approach to distributing short films which uses well established social and video networks to exhibit its filmmakers, earning them income through a series of advertising and partnership deals; just watching the films above helps them earn money. So if you have a short film you think is up to the standard and would like to get involved, have a look around coffeeshorts.co.uk and check out the online submission details; we also accept music videos and trailers for indie DVDs or features.
More short films and mini-reviews next month, and good luck with the New Year resolutions!
