How to Build Your Own Shock Mount, Take 1, Pg. 2

The tools used:

  • Dremel Tool with several cutting disks
  • Pipe Cutter
  • Sand Paper
  • Screw Driver
  • Tap and Dye
  • Variable Speed Drill

Step one:
Remove the bottom from the Pencil holder.  This was the most difficult part of the job.  I went through several cutting disks on the Dremel to cut around the edge of the solid metal bottom of the Pencil Holder.  I'm sure a hack saw could also be used for this purpose.

Step Two:
Convert the Shower Arm to a microphone stem.  I used the pipe cutter to remove the threaded ends (we don't need them and they look rather ugly).  Next drill two holes in the short end of the arm to receive bolts used to attach the arm to the frame.  If you've never used a tap and dye, you could simply drill holes large enough to pass the bolts through and fasten them each with a nut.
