Review: Adobe Production
Studio Premium, Pg. 6
Other
than that, the overall performance of this package is
simply awesome. Everything works well together as it is
and it's awesome to see a company that has actually accomplished
the level of integration that Adobe has in this regard.
Value
As microfilmmakers, if we're going to spend $1699 on something,
it had better provide us with everything we need to make
our films. And that's exactly what makes the Production
Studio Premium such an amazing value: for $1699, you
get everything you need to make your films at the best
possible quality. (They also sell a radically scaled down
version of this package called Production Studio Standard
for $1199, but it is not nearly as good a value because
all you get is Premiere Pro 2, Photoshop CS 2, After
Effects 7 Standard, and Bridge. This is certainly
not everything you need, nor is it even that inexpensive
in comparison.)
The
$1699 Adobe Production Studio Premium would cost
you $3694 if you bought it all separately, so you're saving
$2 grand by buying it in a package. Now, how does it compare
to other manufacturers' offerings for an equivalent type
of package?
For
Avid Xpress Studio HD Essentials with Photoshop
and Illustrator add-on purchases, you would be paying
$4643.
For
Apple's Final Cut Studio package with Photoshop
and Illustrator add-on purchases, you would be paying
$2447.
For
Sony Vegas+DVD, with After Effects 7 Professional,
Photoshop, and Illustrator add-on purchases,
you would be paying $2548
So,
there you have it, no matter how you break it down or
who you compare it to, Adobe Production Studio Premium
is an awesome value. (Of course, when you put it in terms
like that, it almost sounds like a 'Total' cereal advertisement.)
Final
Comments
For the first time since I started editing, I have to
truly take my hat off to a PC based video editing package.
Normally, I make the comment that a video editing program
is pretty good 'for a PC setup.' However, in this situation,
I have to say that I think that PC owners got the best
possible editing system for the most amazing price. Before
doing this review, I thought I was totally committed to
Mac and now I'm having to reassess my viewpoint. The PC-based
Production Studio Premium just makes more sense. Quite
frankly, unless you own serious shares of stock in Mac,
you really need to get the Adobe Production Studio Premium.
