Review: Photoshop CS5 Extended, Pg. 3

Content Aware Fill before cleanup.

Content Aware Fill
After Cutting Matt out and pasting him in a new Layer Mask, my next task is to erase him from the background layer. With my selection already made, I simply hit the delete (or backspace) key, approve that I want Content Aware fill in the new dialogue box, and wait a moment for the program to automatically fill in the missing information.

A moment later the program completes its computation and shows me what it's done. It has done a great job of filling in the empty space. You may find some curious artifacts that you will have to cleanup by hand, but overall this tool works wonders and will save you a lot of time.

Content Aware Fill is probably the most notable feature of CS5, and understandably so. It's quite an ambitious concept and is a huge time saving feature that frees you from complex and difficult cloning and, in most cases, will result in a better end product. When using Content Aware Fill in conjunction with the new Refine Edge tool, amateurs as well as professionals will be able to use the power of Photoshop to achieve their vision for promotional materials, photo shoots, cover art, and other projects while not getting over their heads. This is because you can shoot more places and in conditions that may not be favorable and still know you can come out with material that will work for your project or your client.
