Depth of Options
Digieffects has a knack for creating plugins that are complex in execution yet simplistic in design and not bogged down by tons of options. Camera Mapper is no exception to this rule. There are only a few options: Choose Projection Camera, Choose Projection Layer, and Choose how the Alpha channel is handled. While such simplicity is impressive for such a sophisticated effect, it left me wanting more.
With Camera Mapper applied to just the ground layer, there is clearly alot more believeability to the perspective of the picture.
For instance, the issue of borders came into play a lot. When some projections are positioned a certain way, it is very easy to see the original image behind it. A list of options for expanding borders would be greatly appreciated for this effect. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to add layer-handling options within the plugin. Since Camera Mapper relies heavily on the After Effects 3D environment, which we all know isn't perfect, there can be some confusion in working out which layers should be seen and which should be hidden by another. In advanced situations it is rather tedious and confusing to work this problem out within the comp, and it would be nice if Digieffects figured out an easier way to handle this within the plugin.
Now I want to add text as if it was sitting on the ground. Without Camera Mapper, the text is all over the place. I know the wiggle looks goofy but I'm adding it to just show you how the text is not believable at all in this 3D world.
