Software Review: Mocha, Pg. 3

Make fine adjustments on your mask, and transfer the tracking data to AE or FCP. Or adjust the mask to a perfect a roto mask, and export the shape data using the shape plug-in for AE or FCP.

Performance
It's true, you can do tracking in other programs such as Motion, and sometimes they do the trick. But Mocha, like all of Imagineer's products, feature their unique "Planar tracker" that can track through shots that most other software systems can't...Shots where motion blur tends to confuse the tracking points, objects that go off screen, and objects that have severe changes in dimension.

I see Mocha the same way I see the Iphone. I didn't know I needed it, but now that I have it, I can't imagine life without it! It becomes a miracle product, especially when you are looking at a project with several tracking issues you would normally have to send to your effects editor. This saves you time and money, and gives you more confidence when a project comes your way.

Value
Mocha for Final Cut is worth its weight in gold. The first version of Mocha comes with Adobe Creative Suite 4, so you can definitely get started with that. But Version 2 is worth weight in diamonds. Lucky you, it's only $222 for the full version of each (or $110 to upgrade from After Effects CS4 version).

Final Comments
Are you an editor? Are you a filmmaker? Are you a director who sort-of understands editing? If you will have any point in which you need to replace something or add something that must seamlessly track with your footage, then you all need Mocha. And, what's more, with the great training provided, you can all operate Mocha. Get it.
