Performance This program does everything it promises and then some. Not only does it make the entire process of production easier, but it takes it to a whole new level by making it a highly versatile, fully integral, interactive experience.
The Web Services option allows you to save your project(s) to your Celtx account…
…where you can share your work with filmmakers online via Celtx Project Central.
Value It is said that you can’t get something for nothing, but Celtx has definitively proved otherwise. At first, I couldn’t believe that this software and all of its features (video tutorials, Project Central, etc.) are completely and totally free… but it is. This isn’t a trial version; I haven’t been bombarded with emails or pop-ups prompting me to upgrade or purchase the “full version”. And access to Project Central is completely free as well. Not only that, but with the help of users around the world, Celtx has been translated (and is able to be downloaded) in 25 languages and is available in three formats (Windows, Mac, and Linux)!
As a film production tool, other than the password protection issue, this software is as good as Gorilla 4. But then Celtx ups the ante by making it a completely multimedia tool that goes beyond filmmaking into print, audio, and theatre. And then to top it all off, they create a community where fellow media makers from all over the world can come together and share their ideas. Together, this makes a software that is invaluable to the microfilmmaking community.
Final Comments I haven’t seen anything like Celtx before, and needless to say… I’m extremely impressed. This software is an absolute must-have for any low-budget filmmaker (or playwright, or comic book writer, or audio performer) out there. There’s no excuse for not having this one, folks, ‘cause it’s free.
