Software Review: Vegas 7 +DVD, Pg. 3

Finally, they also added improvements to way Vegas deals with external monitors. The external feed from your computer can now resize in another monitor, independently of the view you are seeing in the editor itself. This can allow you to watch HD resolution on a high resolution monitor, without having to buy a standalone HD monitor for this job.

Value
Vegas +DVD still represents a good value for the money, but the fact that most of the upgrades are related to basic streamlining of use and customization, rather than radical improvements, may make many owners of Vegas 6 +DVD unwilling to pay to upgrade. Additionally, with increased competition from PC editing programs made by Avid and Adobe, both of which offer programs with a more universal video interface and, in the case of Adobe, some pretty huge upgrades to last year's options, newer users may be less likely to see the value in Vegas with it's unique look and behavior.

Final Comments
Die hard Vegas users will appreciate many of the improvements and upgrades now found in
Vegas 7 +DVD, finding that a software they’ve used for years has gotten even better. Editors from an audio background will find slipping into Vegas 7 +DVD painless, especially if they’re familiar with SoundForge. However, new editors and editors familiar with other programs would be recommended to download the demo to find out if it’s right for them before they buy.
