Back in 2014, Red Giant launched Universe, a reasonably priced, subscription-based, set of effects and transitions compatible with most popular editing and graphics software. Recently they’ve launched the 2.0 update to the plugins, which includes 4 new effects as well as 29 updates to existing ones. So we figured it’s time to take another look!
PluralEyes 4 (Software Review)
PluralEyes has been a staple of my workflow for a few years now. If you’re still manually syncing multiple camera angles, or separately recorded audio tracks to your video, you’re probably wasting a ton of time. With PluralEyes, you’re spending less time syncing and more time editing.
StoryBoard Artist 7 Studio (Software Review)
So you’re done writing your film. Congratulations! What’s next? Visualizing your film before you shoot by creating a storyboard. Storyboarding involves drawing still, comic book-like images of what you want your final scenes to look like. It is used as a guideline for smooth filming on set, and also as a template for the pre-production editing process. So what makes a good storyboard? Quick, clear and simple images. A good storyboard shows movement and expression and gives a clear sense of how shots should be composed.

Revoice Pro 3 (RVP3) builds on the underlying technology of the company’s popular VocAlign software, a vocal editing tool that made its debut in 1995. RVP3 has many uses but shines in actions such as adjustment and alignment of dialog, voice-overs, ADR ( “automated dialog replacement” – re-recording dialogue by the original actor after filming to improve audio quality), sung vocals, instruments, and generating double tracks for vocals.
CINEMA C4D Studio r17 (Software Review)
With CINEMA C4D Studio r17, MAXON doesn't introduce any mind bending additions. What they do quite well is improve on an already extremely capable tool set and enter the world of Synergy. C4D is becoming a hub for cinematic workflows that require CG. And yes, there are some cool new toys.
iClone 6 Pro + Character Creator (Software Review)
iClone 6 Pro, along with Character Creator, gives filmmakers the ability to create robust pre-viz stills and animations or full-on scenes, environments and characters. For those that also enjoy producing Machinima productions, this is probably the tool you'll want to consider looking at.
