Los Angeles, CA – May 19, 2017 – Short film, “Burying Amber” has been selected in competition for Dances With Films Festival which is celebrating its 20th year. It will be screening at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Shorts Program 4 on June 4th, 2017 at 12:30pm.
“Burying Amber” is a love story about what connects us even when we’re broken. When Lori breaks up with her wife and moves to her grandfather’s land she must face the end of her relationship in a way she doesn’t expect.
Co-directed by Alix Angelis and Vincent Cardinale (Lone Wolf), written by and starring Alix Angelis (The Magnificent Seven) and shot by Thomas Marchese (Fallen), Burying Amber was filmed on the lead actress’s childhood family farm near Gainesville, Florida.
“It was the perfect setting for this story. It lent itself to peering into a kind of loneliness we can all expect to feel in our lives.” – Alix Angelis
“What I really liked about the project, from a visual standpoint, was the solitude of it. Although the main character interacts with other people, you never really see them or get assurance that they inhabit the same reality. This really lends a kind of surreal melancholy to the piece.” – Thomas Marchese
The filmmakers endeavor to look at how heartbreak becomes surreal when a person has to deal with the mundane necessities that come with it. The tagline of the film says it all: Some days you have to dig a grave.
“Some things make the drama go away and force us to connect. I think remembering to love in these moments is important.” – Alix Angelis
Spoiler Alert: Anyone who has loved a pet and felt rescued by them will be touched by this film.
