Seattle, WA – December 23, 2015 – South African actress Amy Letcher brings a fantastical nation to its knees in the worldwide premiere of Reed Shusterman’s new Fantasy short, Goblin Queen, screening at the tenth annual Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Film Festival in Seattle next March.
In Goblin Queen, an overbearing mother struggles to parent her typically-teenage daughter, who keeps disappearing to unwillingly rule a magical land. When a dangerous creature from another world follows the teenager home, mom must confront the reality of who her daughter has become. As the directorial debut of director Reed Shusterman, produced by Cindi Rice, and starring Amy Letcher, Stacey Moseley, John Ellsworth Philips, Ty Puttenvink and Jamie Cline, the film has already generated a loyal following on social media, and is creating quite a buzz amongst its fans with the announcement of its upcoming festival screening.
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Festival, an annual juried festival showcasing animated and live-action science fiction, fantasy, and horror-tinged short films from around the globe, is set to take place in Seattle on March 19th. Co-presented by EMP and SIFF, the festival is known as a “celebration of artistic excellence”, and “brings together cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers, and artists for a lineup of illuminating and unconventional films”. Amy, a Science Fiction and Fantasy enthusiast herself, is looking forward to the globally recognized event, and the debut of Goblin Queen.
“I’ve always loved the Fantasy and SciFi genres – I was the kid making capes out of bedsheets and creating kingdoms in the trees in my garden! So when I heard about Goblin Queen it was like a door opening into the world of my imagination, how could I not be excited? The film was incredible to work on – such a talented cast and crew, and a creative genius of a director! What an honor to be a part of bringing this fantastical world to life!”
The film marks yet another upcoming appearance on 2016’s festival circuit for the talented actress, standing alongside her solo show, Princess Freckles and the Forever Kingdom, which has already been scooped up by the Whitefire Solo Theatre Festival, running in Early February of next year. The show made its debut in Hollywood this year to rave reviews from its audiences:
“Tears flowed throughout. Amy held the audience in rapt attention from start to finish. I urge you to experience Princess Freckles.”
– Michael Abrams, Manager/Founder of Michael Abrams Group .
With a number of Indie films in the works, and plans to tour the US and possibly abroad with her solo show, this KwaZulu Natal native seems unstoppable. For now though, she’s focusing on Goblin Queen’s upcoming screening. “This film is worth the watch – I can’t wait for the world to see it!”
Tickets go on sale Friday December 17th, and word from the EMP Museum is that Goblin Queen’s screening will be selling out by the end of the week – so don’t wait to buy your tickets!
